![]() I don't think something shaped like a Brachiosaurus could attack like it does. I was going to pick the Hydra in my top 10, but something about its design turns me off. The approach Age of Mythology took is not loyal to the myth but it works well in the game. The version with the dog head hips is a bit exaggerated but it's still a fun monstrosity. It was my favourite chapter in the Odyssey. One of my favourite mythological creatures of all time. I couldn't pick which drawing was better so I picked two. So why do I like them in a nutshell? Sheer power. They are very fast too so they are a great asset to an army. It's like a bird headed supersized fanatic. Just look at that thing spin and cut everything around it. It deals high amounts of hack damage and its special attack only takes 10 seconds to recharge. The Avenger is in my opinion the strongest Egyptian myth unit. But maybe some units don't need any upgrades because they are already insanely powerful on their own. One thing I recently noticed in with the Egyptian is that there isn't an upgrade that enhances all your myth units (Greek have Monstrous Rage, Norse have Thurizane Ruin and Atlantean have Mythic Reguvination). ![]() It was inevitable that the Hamartroll grew on me. Norse lack soldiers that deal pierce damage so Trolls fill the gap really well. What really sealed the deal is how useful they finally showed themselves in my more recent battles. As a result, I learned that Trolls with extra heads was really a thing and that some of them were indeed rock throwers. But then I saw the movie Troll Hunter which is now one of my favourite movies of all time. ![]() I also thought it was weird that it would gain a second head. I always thought of them as club wielding skull bashers like in the first Harry Potter movie. Still, these were fun to use and these sacs of gas are remarkably sturdy.Īt first, I never really cared much for the Troll. Did they just really needed more thunderbolt animation? I guess they kind of look like Murmillo helmets, but that's it. Why didn't they just pick Charybdis? Its counterpart Scylla was already made. There's nothing really mythological about these animals. Looking back now, I feel like Ensemble Studios really cheated. I really enjoyed using them to attack the enemy bases on the shoreline and zap everything within range. When I learned that they would appear in the Titans Expansion, I was extremely excited. Portugese Man O' Wars were already one of my favourite animals growing up. Also, I really like the cyclops from that Sinbad movie, it's some of the best stop motion animations I can think of. They can massacre buildings and instantly kill human units. On a random map like Vinlandsaga, they can help you conquer the continent super early. What I like about Cyclops is the huge of damage they can deal for a unique obtainable so early in the game. Still, they look great and they swim so elegantly. I think one alone could take on a Kraken but I need to be sure of that. But I like what makes them unique: their huge bonus versus other myth units. I admit, Nereids aren't the strongest of the batch. They can be used to transport units over water too, but I rarely use Rocs for that. Saves me the effort of training new villagers. Whenever enemies try to ambush my helpless villagers, WHOOP! They can garrison inside the Roc who then flies to safety past the forest that ground units must walk around. I tend to keep one close to my villagers who were mining gold far away from the Town Center, something that happens a lot on Maps such as Anatolia. ![]() They don't even attack! However, as I started playing more seriously, I found that Rocs were extremely useful. Okay sure, these flyings units aren't powerful at all. This is also just my personal opinion so feel free to list your personal favourites below. I will not include god power myth units like Nidhogg or Ancestors. So today I thought I'd share my personal top 10 myth units in the game. Still, myth units are a big part of what makes Age of Mythology what it is. Monsters are so cool!! Now that I'm older I learned how more important it is to use human soldiers. When I was younger I would cheat in the game solely to create huge armies of Fire Giants, Heka Gigantes and even Automatons. One of my favourite feature in Age of Mythology was the ability to create myth units.
